How it Works

Botox® neurotoxin is a purified protein that helps control sweating by blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that activate the sweat glands. These are typically stimulated to produce perspiration in response to an increase in body temperature. However, in individuals with excessive sweating, the nerves that signal the sweat glands are overactive. When Botox is injected into a specific area, the sweat glands at the injection site no longer receive chemical signals, thereby preventing perspiration from being produced.

What areas can be treated by Botox®?

The treatment consistently results in meaningful, long-lasting improvements in daily function and quality of life.

During your appointment, you will meet with a health care provider who will perform an assessment, discuss your medical history and answer any questions you may have. A typical treatment involves a series of injections to the treatment area. The number of injections will vary depending on the size of the area affected. A small amount of Botox solution is injected into the affected area through a very fine needle. The needle is placed just under the skin, so you may experience some injection-related discomfort, but it is usually very well tolerated.

How long will the results last?

Results start to be noticeable approximately 2 to 4 days after treatment. The full effect of Botox is usually achieved within 2 weeks. Dryness typically lasts 4 to 12 months, depending on how fast the body takes to metabolize the BOTOX®. Some patients have even found that results can last as long as 14 months. On average, our patients come to us for treatment twice a year.
